    When you mix the dry ingredients at home... for the blueberry crumble, add little pats of butter to it and knead the zip baggie until you have a crumbled mixture. One way to make sure it is easily incorporated when heating the bag.

    There's a drawstring on the side of the Thermorest which allows you to condense the foam and get it to have more loft. You can also put it in a compression sack with your down quilt/sleeping bag. At that point it will take up very little room in your bag. It still takes up more room than the other pillows, but i swear by it.

    I thought you said they had to be healthy! butter and sausage? Sorry to break it to you but no animal product is healthy. All saturated fat and no fiber. The only diet that promotes human health instead of degrading it is the high-fiber whole foods plant-based diet.

    • @WildernessGrandpa
      @WildernessGrandpa 10 дней назад

      Totally, completely false. There's no unbiased evidence of that. There's only a small percentage of the population that can thrive on a plant based diet.

    Watching this, onion looks very "allium" which is reasonable since it is in the same family as the flower. Death camus has a totally different flower. I will be looking for the flowering plant for sure, because I'm bad about just tasting plants. I should probably be more careful!

    Thank you for this info! I subscribed because I’m really excited to start hiking longer trips and start back packing. Can you make suggestions for safety for solo women? I just got my first pack and will be doing my first trip alone.

    • @WildernessGrandpa
      @WildernessGrandpa Месяц назад

      I hate to say it, but my best and only advice for safe, solo backpacking for women is - "Don't." Especially if you live on the east coast. Always take a buddy to be safe. It's not the 4-legged creatures which would be your concern. For the most part, they leave people alone.

Cubed small with a pad of butter and tossed into the coals. Its a must anytime i camp. brings my right back to being a kid camping with grandma and grandpa. love it

    some years ago when my eldest son was having some terrible asthmatic attacks someone suggested we give him wild onions - the recipe was to boils down one or two cherry sized roots from a regular drinking size cup to have of its volume we did this about two times this caused him to vomit a lot of mucus but since doing that he never encountered that type of attacked - is this consistent with the characteristics of the plant. or could it have been the other type of onion plants you mentioned?

    I like to enjoy hiking and camping and stuff but this is why I only do stuff in the desert now. I had a scary experience with a bear that ran at me up in Yosemite. I was hiking around a lake at around mid morning and about 200 ish yards from me out of the reeds popped a black bear. It looked at me and my dad for a little bit then started coming over to where we were. Once it got about 100 yards from us it started to pick up the pace into a gallop. Then it stopped again about 30 yards from us. At this point we were waving our hiking poles and holding our jackets above us. We were talking to it and shouting a little. Then it got scared and ran away into the forest. We just turned around and went back. This is why I only really camp and hike in the desert now - Joshua tree, Anza borrego, Mojave, Death Valley, some places in AZ, etc. Well, that’s partially because that’s the main places I find the stuff I like such as snakes and scorpions. I think the thing that really shook me about that experience was that we never carried bear spray or and weapons like a knife. Now I don’t go anywhere without at least a small knife and if I were to go back I would bring bear spray.
